What kind of church is Mercyview?

Mercyview is a diverse, growing community that is exploring what it means to live out the good news of Jesus in a great North American urban center. We are an evangelical Christian church committed to the historic Christian faith as lined out in the Nicene Creed. For a closer look at our beliefs, click here.

What kind of people come to Mercyview?

At Mercyview, you will find people of different ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds, and professions; people who grew up in the Tulsa area, as well as people who have moved here from different parts of the country. Spiritually speaking, you will encounter people who are in different places in their spiritual journey. Some are exploring the Christian faith for the first time; others are returning and others have spent most of their lives in church.

What if I don’t normally go to church?

You are the reason we started Mercyview! We seek to create multiple welcoming environments for those who are curious about God but have never felt comfortable in church. We meet in coffee shops, homes, and larger gatherings to experience Jesus in our lives. We also do our best to explain each element of these environments so that you don’t get lost along the way. We want Mercyview to be a place where you can learn, apply, and wrestle with who God is and what He wants for you. It’s okay if you don’t have it all figured out yet; we don’t either.

Where do you meet?

We currently meet in homes to study the word of God, apply the Gospel to our lives, and pray for one another. We also meet in third places in the city to disciple one another and serve the city by enacting the Gospel through ministries of mercy and justice. We gather on Sundays to worship Jesus, experience the manifest presence of God, and and to sit under the authority of His Word.

When we gather in each of these environments, we are relaxed but focused. We aren’t flashy and we don’t believe people need big productions to connect with God. We follow a basic pattern of meeting together that is traced back to the early Church. We teach from the Bible. We pray, meditate, and reflect. We share our lives and a common mission. We try to make all of our environments accessible to those who are new to the Christian faith, and at the same time, fresh for those who have been in the church for a long time.

Who leads Mercyview?

Mercyview is an elder-led and member-engaged church. Due to the nature of church planting, in Mercyview’s initial phases, the only elder will be the lead pastor-elder. In lieu of “in house” elders, an external advisory board has been designated to give oversight, support, and accountability to Mercyview. This board consists of experienced pastors and advisors who are outside of the covenant community of Mercyview but fully support the vision and mission of the church.

What about my children?

Mercyview is a family-friendly environment. We believe that children are a blessing from God and should be taught the story of God and how they fit into this grand narrative. We currently provide childcare for ages 0-5, led by loving caregivers, for our missional communities and our worship gatherings.

What are my next steps in getting connected?

There are a few next steps that would encourage you to take:

1. We ask that you “Give us 6.” We believe that if you hang out with us for 6 weeks, you’ll have a pretty good idea of who we are and what we believe.
2. Check out one of our Missional Communities or men’s/women’s cohorts. A missional community is a group of 10-12 people who share life together, “gospel” one another, and do mission together. A cohort is a small groups of 3-8 people that meet weekly for study and discussion on themes found in the Scripture.
3. After you’ve had the chance to read more about us and what we believe, if you have any questions or would like to meet personally with our lead pastor, please let us know by dropping us a note at: bandrews[at]mercyview.com.
