We believe that when we are born into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, we are not just born into any community; we are born into a very specific kind of association with one another: partners of the Body of Christ. The forgiveness we have received is not just a personal pardon in a verticalized relationship with God, but it is also inextricably a new relationship with one another. Just as we have been forgiven, renewed and live in relationship with God, we forgive, renew, and live in reconciled relationships with one another. When we live outside of community and interdependence on one another, our very humanity is compromised and subverted.
So how do we experience this community? We believe that healthy community is achieved when we hold harmonious connections between the four spaces we use to develop personalities, culture, and communication: intimate, personal, social, and public spaces. At Mercyview:
- an intimate space would be a Gospel Triad or our Men’s Theology Cohort
- a personal space would be a Missional Community
- a social space would be our TheoPub event
- a public space would be our Worship Gathering
We understand that a person’s search for community is a complex process but one that is necessary. We believe that is important for everyone to be involved in all four spaces, but we know that one’s entry point into our community is going to look different than someone else’s and that is ok.
We invite you to enter into our community in the space that meets you where you are right now. That may be at one of our worship gatherings or maybe in one of our missional communities. It may be in one of our Gospel Triads or our TheoPubs. Our hope is that as you experience Jesus within the space that fits you, it will lead you to be a part of all four of our spaces where the Gospel can shape you deeply and in different ways.
