What kind of church is Mercyview?
What kind of people come to Mercyview?
Mercyview is a growing, diverse, grace-filled faith community that is exploring what it means to live out the good news of Jesus in a great North American urban center. We are an evangelical Christian church committed to the historic Christian faith as lined out in the Nicene Creed. For a closer look at our beliefs, click here.
At Mercyview, you will find people of different ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, professions, and ethnicities. You will find people who grew up in the Tulsa area, as well as people who have moved here from different parts of the country. Spiritually, you will also encounter people who are in different places in their faith journey. Some are exploring the Christian faith for the first time. Some are returning to the church after some time away while others have spent much of their life in the church.
What About My Children?
What if I don't normally go to church?
Mercyview is a family-friendly environment. We believe that children are a blessing from God and the future of the church. We count it a privilege to serve our parents at Mercyview by teaching their children about Jesus and his grace. We currently provide childcare for babies who are able to crawl up to age 10 years old, led by loving caregivers, for both our worship gatherings and our missional communities. You can find more information about Mercyview Kids here.
You are the reason we started Mercyview! We seek to create multiple welcoming environments for those who are curious about God but have never felt comfortable in church. We meet in coffee shops, homes, and larger worship gatherings to experience Jesus in our lives. We also do our best to explain each element of these environments so that you don’t get lost along the way. We want Mercyview to be a place where you can learn, apply, and wrestle with who God is and what that means for your life.
Where do you meet?
Who leads Mercyview?
We meet in homes to study the word of God, apply the Gospel to our lives, and pray for one another. We meet in various places to bless and serve the city through the ministry of mercy and justice. We also gather to worship Jesus on Sundays, experience the presence of God, and and to sit under the authority of His Word. In our worship gathering time, we are relaxed but focused. We aren’t flashy and we don’t believe people need big productions to connect with God. We follow a basic pattern of meeting together that is traced back to the early Church. We sing new and old songs. We corporately read Scripture and pray together. We teach through books of the Bible. We take communion weekly. We try to make all of our environments accessible to those who are new to the Christian faith, and at the same time, fresh for those who have been in the church for a long time.
Mercyview is a Jesus-shepherded, elder-led, deacon/team-served, member-engaged church. We recognize that Jesus is our senior pastor - we join him in the work he is already doing in our midst.
